back to basics

Yes, it's been quiet here. And one reader has noticed (and it is nice to have a reader once in a while).

Explanation: Insanity! Yes, I've talked before about having overcommitted myself, and that particular chicken came home to roost with a vengeance in the past month. However, that's winding down for now--the major feature design work for the day job is done and reviewed, and the conference advance program and registration are ready to go.

In addition, Snazzy the kitten is growing up and settling in.

One of the things I wanted to do with this blog is to begin working into the core of what it means to be me, several years later. Most of the original material on my web site is at least five years old, and I seem to be heading into more changes. It's time to get away from generalities and into the details, which should cover a broad range of issues in this very interesting year.
