Time Portals

Ever since Einstein proved that the flow of time is observer-dependent, the circular flow of time in the Middle East has been assumed without question. There is no other explanation for the fact that everything which happens there has happened there before. It follows, circularly, that if something has never happened in the Middle East, it can't happen there again, either.

The circular time flow known to exist in this part of the world is not necessarily round, however. Some authorities (M.C. Escher et al) insist that the Middle East time flow is actually a Mobius strip, which would allow things that have happened before to also happen in reverse. This may account for what you refer to as "holographic inserts," although the more commonly used regional terminology is "divine retribution."
