Image Map

Photoshop graphic, 1997.

The image began with the lettering, which was treated to "chrome" effects. All text was selected, and the selection area greatly enlarged, to form the body of the piece. This area was filled with white and treated to lighting effects to cast the shadow. (See Doc Ozone's tutorials on lighting effects for details.) The text was again selected and the selection area enlarged, and contrast adjustments were applied through the selection to create the "carved-out" area in the imagemap body around the text. I created a brushed metal effect (extreme motion blur on random noise) in a separate layer, distorted it slightly, then overlayed this on the imagemap body.

The entire image was created in shades of gray. I used color adjustment layers for both blue and gold coloring; these layers were grouped with the appropriate objects to restrict their effects to the desired areas.
