The original photograph was color-enahnced to bring out strong blue tones. This involved both level and curve adjustments for the blue channel.

Getting the center to look "lit from within" took a bit of work. I used color selection to select only the yellow center parts; with the selection still active, I created a curves adjustment layer to bring red and green channels to maximum levels. I edited the selection (now a layer mask for the adjustment layer) as a channel, using the levels adjustment to enhance contrast, which in turn strengthened the effect of the curves adjustment layer.
