Review process

To ensure a fair evaluation of submissions and a diverse and interesting program, the UPA employs a two-step review process.

First, submissions will be reviewed blindly by a review panel made up of members of the association. Abstracts will be rated for overall quality. Separate review panels exist for the tutorial, workshop, conference programs, and posters. Review panels will evaluate submissions based on the following criteria:

  • How appropriate is the presentation, panel, tutorial, workshop, or poster for our practitioner audience and for the conference goals?
  • Does the speaker's description demonstrate a well defined and clear understanding of the topic?
  • Does the presentation, panel, tutorial, workshop, or poster provide for enough useful and interesting audience participation?

Next, review panels will submit reviewed submissions with comments and ratings to the conference committee. The final recommendation for all submissions will be based on the following:

  • Comments and ratings from review panels
  • The speaker's background and experience relative to the topic area
  • A diverse and balanced program.

The conference committee may accept your submission unconditionally, conditionally subject to subsequent revisions, or reject it. Committee chairs will strive to diversify the topics, skill levels and types of institutions represented.
