It's amazing the people you meet on the net, isn't it? Well, you've met me, now. I'm 46, and I live near the Research Triangle Park in North Carolina.

What do I do with my time? Currently I'm a software engineer for Nortel, where I work on development of telephone switching software. I work on the DMS-100 switching system, enhancing the capacity and reliability of the billing subsystem.

That's my day job. I also do web design part time, simply because I'm obsessed with it. (This page used to index a group of articles on design issues; they are now part of my business site as "Designs On Glass.")

The rest of the time you may find me reading (science fiction and a variety of non-fiction), listening to music (mostly 20th century classical), or playing with my cats, who have never heard of web pages and wouldn't be interested if I knew how to explain it to them. (Although Sylvia likes to sleep on top of my monitor.)

On the net, you'll find me in newsgroups from time to time, as well as on the web. You might find me in rec.music.classical and alt.fan.shostakovich when I'm thinking about music, or talk.bizarre when my sense of humor needs to be fed. Recently I've been haunting comp.graphics.apps.photoshop, accompanying my recent interest in graphical presentation, or sci.space.history, being nostalgic about Apollo. And sometimes I'm in other places; the net is a small world.

I do spend time writing, as well. In the past I've tried my hand at writing science fiction, with mixed success. For now, I tend to write about other things. I've written some technical papers; you can read what I've said about software and web design.

Beyond all of that? I've been around for a while. I've got the obligatory on-line resume if you'd like to see what kind of things I've worked on. I've also added a few biographical notes, so that you can know a little more about me outside of work.
